A medium to large dessert apple, very similar in texture to Cox, although it is slightly more acidic. It is mainly yellow in colour, with red flushes, similar to Cox, but more upright in shape. It has a strong pleasant flavour. Does not keep very well, tending to turn soft quickly once picked. Jupiter was raised by HRI East Malling, Kent in the 1960’s. As an alternative to Cox. although popular with growers, it never really caught on with the public. Parentage: Starking x Cox’s Orange Pippin
