As the name suggests, a very crisp apple with bright crimson colouring. Bred in the United States at Purdue University, West Lafayette. Crimson Crisp keeps extremely well and is suitable for home or organic production bring scab resistant. The apple starts quite sharp but ripens in storage providing a sweeter apple but still with a sub-acid flavour. Introduced in 2001, all the trees in Europe come from France. The parentage of Crimson Crisp is quite complex as the variety has been bred foremost for scab resistance, but it includes Rome Beauty, Golden Delicious, Jonathon, Edgewood, Red Rome and Crandal.
